DAY 1---Leaving for Antarctica

We got to the airport and when weighing our luggage we were told we had to take stuff out of the carry-on piece. I couldn't believe they actually weighed it and we were 6 1/2 lbs. over the weight limit. Enid said it was medical equipment and there was nothing we could take out. Thankfully she let us go after putting a tag on it. I have to say it wasn't a terrible experience even though Miami isn't my favorite airport.
We had someone wheel me to our gate after being patted down and do mean it was very thorough. When she was finished I said can we do it again and she cracked up. When we got to the gate I couldn't find my passport and boarding pass. Every trip we have to have some excitement or else we'd be bored to death. I found it after looking through my pocketbook at least 3 times. Our gate area was getting short of seats and a man sat down next to Enid's seat (she wasn't there at the time) and then one of his friends went to sit in her seat and I told him the seat was taken. Mr Smartass said "I don't see anyone there but I'll do a favor and won't sit there". Then Enid came back and his friend saw that she was there for a while and when she went to the bathroom the smartass turned around and saw the empty chair and asked his friend if Harvey the Rabbit came back and his friend said yes. When Enid returned and he looked at me I asked him if he wanted to meet Harvey. I think he was a little embarrassed and he deserved it.

As much as I hated the reservation process on LAN and all the changes of our flights before we even left we were pleasantly surprised by the flight attendants. They were marvelous and the food was decent for a change. I watched 2 movies on the way to Santiago Chile--Morning Glory and Unstoppable so the flight was tolerable. We needed more excitement so Enid couldn't find her Kindle and we were on a mission. She looked under the seat in front of us and under our seats all the while bending over and mooning the passengers. The stewardess came over and asked if she had a problem and promply found it on the floor under Enid's seat. Tragedy averted. When we got to Santiago it was the start of day 2.
